OK I have just gotten on the bus for Kingston, Jamaica to a Ocho Rios.
Driving in to hostel:
I got to the branch of Reggae Hostel here early and they at first didn’t want to check me in until normal time, then changed mind when I sat where they told me I could and started playing with my iPad. They pointed out where the (icky, cockroaches) kitchen was and the floor level and roof social areas were and to my room where I could choose a bed as it was empty except one bed so far.
This one is really oddly laid out and cute. Two courtyards, as said, one at ground level and one on the roof, for folks to laze about in.
Upper bar/lounging area:
Have scheduled my bus back at 4:50 PM so I will be able to make most of that day to walk around and enjoy.
Curious since it’s yet another place different and even though still somewhat of a destination spot it shouldn’t be quite as much as tourist glob as Montego Bay and also less the city than is Kingston.
So there is that and also I get a different feel from the top of the island compared to the south side in what the land and culture look like.
Am going to be spending the evening doing a boat tour and swim in the bioluminescent waters of Luminous Lagoon. That gives me a good portion of today and a good portion of tomorrow to wander around and then go on the trip.
It should be fun so we shall see.
Later, after being in Ocho Rios for a while:
Barely anyone comes up to the top social area so that is where I’m enjoying being.
Went down to the beach and to enter is $2 for all day. Didn’t have anyone else to look after my stuff so didn’t swim, just walked in the water and on the beach some.
The water is gorgeous clear bright blue that you get in these areas and the wet sand wonderful for toe squishing.
The town itself is pretty cute, too. Much smaller than Kingston, much much.
Getting some bugging by the males here and the vendors of items and services on the street or near it are really persistent and ignore nice or even hard “no, thank you”s and then also ignore being ignored.
So, after only that short outing I headed back to the hostel in not the best of moods.
Got some Chinese takeout and went back to the hostel.
Went and did the Luminous Lagoon trip!
